What Is Self Worth?

The first question you need to ask yourself is what is self worth. Well as I see it, while nobody else recognizes it within you, you have formed an inferiority complex about yourself that is basically not true. You feel unworthy of being yourself and feel that everything and everyone around you sees you as a person that is a worthless and inferior human being.

This complex is self-opinionated and undeserved. I think most of us are self-critical of ourselves from time to time, but when an individual feels so worthless and insignificant then it is time to look deeper within themselves. We have to ask ourselves can we help ourselves or has the situation gone too far and do we need to get professional help.

Was there a situation or time that triggered the way you now feel? You might need to go back to your childhood or school days. Did your parents support you or put you down? Were you bullied at school or never made felt to be part of a group? Maybe you were a bit of a loner and found it difficult to mix with other people.

We can share our fears and lack of self worth without committing ourselves by joining self help communities and forums on the internet. You can even use an alias as a name and by sharing your problems and thoughts, you will inevitably regain some confidence.

As you start to believe in yourself again, there might be opportunities to meet people with the same fears and anxieties you are experiencing in person at small local group meetings. This can be of great comfort to you and will encourage you to tackle your lack of self worth head on.

It is important to take one step at a time and know that it can be a long drawn out process. It has maybe taken a good length of time to get to this point, so re-building your self-confidence and belief is not going to be achieved overnight.

There are instances where our self worth is at such a low point that we really need to seek medical or professional help and advice. A good way to start is to go to your local library, where there is an array of books on the subject. You can also search on the internet, as there is an abundance of resources available to you.

There is undeniable proof that the impressions of self worth we have about ourselves are mostly psychological and have been conditioned into our psyche over a period of time. Therefore, in some cases, while not impossible, can be very difficult to overturn these feelings we have of ourselves.

There are even extreme examples of people who can look in the mirror and definitely see a different person than the one that looks back. One of these examples that comes to mind is about a woman who was convinced that she was ugly.

Because of the belief she had of herself having a large nose, she decided to have surgery on it, so she wouldn’t feel ugly any more. After the operation, the surgeon removed the dressing and asked how she liked her new nose and if she felt any different. She looked in the mirror and replied that she was still ugly.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with her appearance or looks, it was a mindset of her own making and that no other person was aware of. Her lack of self worth was nothing more than her psychological state of mind.
