Self esteem seems to be banded about and categorized in the same pigeon hole as self confidence. There is a massive difference between the two and while one is how you really feel about yourself on a deep and personal level, the other, I might add not always, is about what you portray to the world from the outside and can as easily be construed as a false persona.
So, if you are not even sure what it is, then how can you improve self esteem? Self esteem is what you really feel about yourself, on a deep conscious level. What you see in the mirror is vastly different to what others see in you. If you see a flaw in your makeup and suffer from a lack of self esteem, then what others see will mean very little to you.
You might be aware of how you look physically and while other people comment on how well you look, you have, over some length of time conditioned yourself to feel the way you do. Intellectually, you know you are bright, but there maybe was a time when you were criticised and it left an impression that is with you to this day.
Mixing with other people in public places is something that you might be self conscious about. You feel you are being looked at and it makes you feel uncomfortable. If it is a public bar or club, alcohol is sometimes used to take away this feeling and your confidence will rise. This, like the confidence itself is just a false illusion.
Now you are aware of a few of the common problems associated with a lack of self esteem, it is time to ask yourself, how can I improve self esteem on a deep conscious level to make me feel better about myself? You need to first start listening to people you trust and realize that what they see in you is maybe the true you. You have to believe in that person and start to feel good about yourself.
You know you have the intelligence to carry yourself and what has happened in your past has no resemblence to who you are today. Don’t live in the past and make the most of your talents and skills. There are those that are close to you that you can confide in and maybe share similar experiences.
Remember, to focus on yourself and not see yourself as a victim and that everybody is looking at you and disecting your every move. Unless they are people who are either friends or family, then they are probably not that interested in you and haven’t even noticed you! Don’t focus on what strangers might think and concentrate on how to improve self esteem even further, now that you are aware of it.
